David Burke (Ed Begley, Sweet Bird of Youth, The Unsinkable Molly Brown) is a ruined man, a former cop disgraced for refusing to co-operate with state crime investigators. Hatching a plan for an elaborate bank heist, he approaches Earl Slater (Robert Ryan, The Wild Bunch, The Dirty Dozen), a racist, psychotic ex-con and Johnny Ingram (Harry Belafonte, Bobby), a black nightclub entertainer, with the promise of huge reward if they join him. Both initially refuse but massive debt and the lure of money draw them in, each one thinking a big payoff will erase the failures of the past. However, as the tension of planning the robbery mounts, so to does the antagonism between the two men. From Oscar-winning director Robert Wise, the film also stars Shelley Winters, Gloria Grahame and Kim Hamilton. Composer John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet contributed the films jazz score. Odds Against Tomorrow was credited by Jean-Pierre Melville as being a formative influence on his work.
