Synopsis:

THE SECRET LAUGHTER OF WOMEN is a romantic comedy set in the south of France. When the women of a close knit Nigerian community decide that one of their number should remarry it sets Europe and Africa on an unexpected and comical collision course... Nimi da Silva leads a relatively peaceful life amongst the female dominated Nigerian community in a picturesque coastal town in southern France. Through her incorrigible seven year old son, Sammy, she meets the urbane and adulterous comic book writer, Matthew Field. To Sammy, Matthew is a hero and a suitable match for his mother; to the women of Rue Bonaparte he is a spanner in the works, scuppering their plans to marry Nimi off to the eminent Reverend Fola. A married woman's head-tie will offer Nimi the chance of respectability her mother so desires. Will Nimi marry the Reverend or follow her heart and finally find love?
